Reports from moppy and pinkie on the Great Harry pool games...

Match report v Duke of Northumberland

posted by paul williams

Here is a picture of where we did not go! Due to the pub being closed due to some unpaid bills, we played the game at a well known snooker hall that the Harry Dogs frequent.. Erith Snooker. We might be here more next season..

This location obviously helped us, as we stormed to 6-0 singles lead at the break. This was partly due to good play, but to be honest mostly due to bad play from our opponents. Not really much to report on this string of harry dogs wins.. I was probably watching Chelsea lose as much as the pool!

1st doubles saw Rocket/Postie win as well with a well taken finish, could this be a 9-0?

No was the answer. A very well taken finish by one of the Duke of Northumberland put paid to that. It was the best bit of pool all night.

And spurred on by the last clearence they took the last game as well. Doubles not our kettle of fish!

Result: 7:2 win Harry Dogs. A good win but doesnt really matter in our mid table obsecurity

match report v red barn

posted 3 Mar 2010 07:53 by paul williams   [ updated 3 Mar 2010 08:47 ]

It is shocking that it is a week since the pool team were last assembled.

Hopefully a better team performance was due this week...

Below is a quick snapshot of the red barn team, so you understand what we up against! (click on any to enlarge). They only had 5 so we had to pick one to play twice... Who would you pick.

Pinkie got us off with a good win. He did mention a three ball plant turning the game in his favour. But i did not see this myself! i was in the loo!

Mop missed his clearence opp and then lost to good clearence in return.

OSW produced a polished display to make it 2-1

John got beaten by a good dish by Danny. Although 'Moon Boy' was unlucky not to escape out of the snooker his was put it.

Mr wobbly made a welcome return.. It was all looking bad with 2 shots for his opponenet on the black.. But Wobbly had clevely positioned his red to be pocketed when his opponent potted the black.. We have missed his advanced tactics..

Rocket made a late appeaernce and lost within 5 minutes... enough said

Doubles was shocking as we won all three.. If i was sad i would look up when the last happened and tell you.. Well it was 29/09/09 v Village Inn

Result: A 6:3 win away, mid table obsecurity is all we have! Oh and comedy..

match report v yacht

posted 24 Feb 2010 08:24 by paul williams   [ updated 24 Feb 2010 11:40 ]

An interesting night.....

Firstly this was supposed to be a home game. But due to a washing machine flood incidient at the Harry, it had to be moved as it was closed..

I'm sure insurance will cover cost for new fixture and fittings.. And maybe some new tables and chairs.... new jukebox, new decor...

So the game was arranged to play at the Yacht

OSW and Wobbly were going to meet us at snooker, then go down Yacht... But they were waylaid off a dual carriageway in Thamesmead.. I'm not saying this is a dogging incidient.. But the following image was found in OSW digital camera...

They also reported a flat tire.. That might be related to above picture too...

The actual pool played by the remaining Harry pool team was pretty poor. Mop took a good finish out in the second frame. But the missed half chances were there for everyone else to dwell on. But credit to Yacht team, they did close out games very well. Although they played old fashioned rules to extreme. With one occurance of 2 shots just used to snooker again. If you want to make sure of win that is the way to do it.. We just got drunk!

Result: So a bad 1:8 loss. With us only taking 3 frames out of 18 from the yacht this season. Our world rules expriences really have lost our old EPA tactic heads. Is this the end of us playing old rules and Tuesdays??? Should we go back to roll up shots, slow playing and looking for snooker at every shot?? I dont think we can be bothered to. World rules offers such a better way of playing the game, in the spirit it was meant to. TBD...

Trebles KO

posted 19 Feb 2010 12:57 by paul williams   [ updated 23 Feb 2010 04:26 ]

Trebles draw released.

The Harry teams meet in in last 8. Harry A v Harry B team!

Trebles KO report

posted 17 Feb 2010 06:07 by paul williams

Quick report on trebles match at Royal Oak playing the B team.

Pinkie/Mop and Rocket were in action and in that order through games.

Pinkie up first and produced a exquisite 6 ball dish. One of the best for a while from Pinkie, Mop up next and produced a tidy frame to make it 2:0
Rocket made it three after he nicely promoted the black when potting his last coloured ball. But it did go a bit close to going in!

Pinkie up next and a missed black cost him the frame. Mop up next with a workman performance produced another fine win. This made it 4:1
Rocket was unable to cross the finish line with his next frame.

Pinkie up next and to prove glorious dishes are like buses..He produced another peach of a dish to take the win 5:2

If we survive this weekend pool team escape to Brighton, We shall progress to the last 8 of the trebles KO!

A special mention goes out to pool team player Wobbly who came to support us.. Nice to see him out and about again. Long may it continue.

Match Report v Halfway house

posted 10 Feb 2010 03:41 by paul williams   [ updated 10 Feb 2010 12:50 ]

Game at the halfway for the dogs this week. We always have a good laugh with the Halfway guys

Mop v Andy first. Andy went for a tough clearence and it looked good until he failed to find position on the black. Mop was able to then draw out a win from there.
Pinkie/Bert game was a game of missed clearences, both throwing a hatful of chances away before Bert stumbled over the finishing line.
Postie made an earlier than normal appearnence but failed to deliver ;)
Rocket doubled his win total with a good win.And reliable John kept up his winning form making it 11 wins this season and keeping him top of league averages.
OSW missed a glorious chance to keep on Johns heels.
Ended all square at 3-3 each after singles.

Doubles was normal story as we slipped to another 4-5 loss. This time due a very strange foul by OSW. He touched his last yellow with his cue when working out the angle of white! What a muppet :) Last league game he left before the end and forfeited, has he been paid off???

I make that 6 losses at 4-5! Soon our doubles nightmare will be over when we get into summer SLKPA league.

2 Harry teams in action.

Rocket and John went off to play at Royal Oak. An unsuccesful night saw them losing to the Oak team.

Mop/Pinkie were off to the Halfway House. Newly refurbished I might add!

Mop/Pinikie had a more successful night scoring two 2-0 wins and playing some high quality pool.

match v Royal Oak

posted 28 Jan 2010 06:42 by paul williams   [ updated 28 Jan 2010 06:58 ]

Could we carry on our good run v the league leaders Oak..

Things looked good at the start.

Pinkie carried on his good vein of league form with a win for harry in 1st game. Mop was off form missing several chance to clear, and then having an unfortunate snooker on black when it looked game was his for taking.

Rocket played as rocket does..Plays some amazing shots at start but fails to clear and gifts game away!

John and Glen kept their good season stats with good wins between them, leaving just Posite who got beaten by a good clearnce from Oaks Mike

3-3 after singles and all to be played for. Although doubles is not a past time the Harry Dogs like! And thias showed again

First 2 were tight games but we just don't win many doubles. And lost both and the night. 3-5 down

Could we salvage a 5-4 loss? All looked good until cab for OSW turned up in mid game. With the black hanging over the pocket and game at our mercy,
Mop was snookered, OSW on route back to deepest darkest woolwich. Could mop pull off 2 cushion escape.. Nope, so game forfeited on OSW visit. And point gifted to Oak. If they win by a point they owe some beers to OSW!

Score: 3-6 loss. Doubles let us down big time. The run comes to an end. oh well :)

match v Crayford Social away

posted 20 Jan 2010 03:32 by paul williams   [ updated 25 Jan 2010 03:55 ]

Always one of the more attacking pool nights of the season was here again. Both teams like to pot balls which leads to some good quick games! The World Rules would suit Crayford Social style well.

Yankie Pinkie started the ball rolling, Crayfords Tom had chance on his first visit to clear, but got stuck on 6th red ball. Pinkie produced a peach of a snooker to get 2 shots which he smarty displatched the game with.

Mop next, and he broke the pack well but it included the white in/off. A bad positional shot by Richard then led to another white being pocketed. Mop then cleaered nicely.

Rocket could not make it three, as in/off course struck again from break. Anthony controlled the game well from there and won easily.
Johh played well and deserved his good win, OSW failed to take his chance and went down.
And Keith showed some good long pots to take his 2nd win of the season.

4-2 up after singles but with our doubles form it was not over yet!

Tight first game, a missed black by Tom eventually led to 2 shots for Keith. Keith just missed his long pot on his last yellow, leading to a Crayford easy win.

Glen/Rocket next. Shot of the night was Rockets only shot in his doubles. He pulled off a plum off a snooker which led to Glen clearing up on his second visit to table.

Mop/John finished off in style with a well taken dish when gifted 2 shots.

Result: 6:3 win. A good night of pool. Very attacking pool all round and harry dogs played well, making it three wins in a row now!

Match report v Village Inn

posted 8 Jan 2010 05:42 by paul williams   [ updated 8 Jan 2010 08:09 ]

Halfway through season already.. Doesn't time fly!

The season is taking it's toll. Both teams turned up with 5 or it could of been the weather.

All nip and tuck at start, with both teams taking 2 out of first 4. Wins for Pinkie & John, Mop lost to a very attacking finish from Dave F from Village Inn & Ryan played well and lost!

Harry's 5 solid players shone through, when OSW won last 2 after they picked him to play again.

1 doubles win sealed the win 5-4

Result: 5-4 win and our first 2 wins in a row this season!!
